The reason why I asked is that a bolted 2-piece rotor assembly will usually achieve slightly more weight savings than a floating 2-piece rotor assembly. Race cars use floating rotors for several reasons, all of them related to extremely high temperatures, very high speeds and extreme cornering loads. On the street, floating rotors are helpful in certain applications, but not most of them.
For the Z, floating makes very little sense. Most people don't plan on maintaining their floating rotors by cleaning the bobbins every so often (which requires new attachment hardware). Also, they can cause some noise even with float springs in place, like the factory rotors on the R35 GT-R.
Would a high-quality 2-piece non-floating rotor assembly do the job? Certainly!
Would Z owners be willing to buy a
proper fixed 2-piece version (not one using a cheesy low-cost rotor ring) over a more expensive "full-floating" version? Let me hear what you all have to say!
