I just changed my oil for the first time today. I only removed the four bolts where the flap is and had plenty of room to do the job. You might want to get a hook strap to keep the flap down and out of the way, especially when draining the oil as it will catch and make a mess!

My filter was also on VERY TIGHT. I could not remove it. I ended up using a Oil Filter Strapped Wrench:

Motion Pro Oil Filter Strap Wrench - Dirt Bike Motocross - Motorcycle Superstore

And it worked great removing the filter without having to puncture it, etc. Thought I would offer that tip for first time oil changes. I don't need to use it after this as I hand tight my filters on and they can be easily removed...
