YES, my 1973 Datsun 240Z was indeed my first non-american car!
(I bought it new in 1973 and still have it. It replaced the '64 Olds F85 sedan my folks gave me when I got my first job. )
Since then have bought (in order):
a used '63 Chevy Corvair convertible in 1975
a new '78 Toyota Celica
a new '87 Dodge Caravan
a used '89 Nissan Maxima in 1992
a used '86 Acura Integra 1n 1995 (for daughters in high school)
a new '96 Dodge Caravan
a used '98 Ford Mustang in 2000 (for daughter in college)
a used '93 Nissan 300ZX in 2003
a new '05 Ford Mustang (for other daughter in college)
a used '03 Subaru WRX in 2006 (for son in college. Kids are expensive!)
a new '09 Nissan Murano
All these cars are/were manual shift except the Caravans and the Murano.
Currently in the garage are the 240Z (now a restoration project), the 300ZX, and the new Murano. All Nissans.
Most useful overall vehicle of all these: the 1996 Dodge Caravan (just sold a few months ago with 240,000 miles on it.)
Most fun car: the 300ZX.
Based on my pattern of buying Z cars 20 model years apart, I expect to buy a 2013 375Z... (But will it be a Nissan? or will Nissan rebrand its North American line again? Hmmm.....)
