Are you positive about the playback on your unit? I just downloaded the manual on the 5120 and it looks to me like you can maneuver around similar to the 8120. If you hit the "list" function (page 32, box 17) it should show a list of the songs along with an "up", "top" and "cover" buttons. The "up" button should take you backwards one level just like the "menu" button on the iPod. If you've got the right cable, you shouldn't even be able to control the iPod when it's connected to the HU.
