I believe in this too. Keeping all the required maintenance and the little aspects that make for a better comprehensive whole is a measure of how well the car will last in the long run.

Having said that I've seen some of the most abused cars pass through high-end detailers at the end of their stay, and come out looking damn good. You just need to worry about the maintenance at that point if you are the next owner.
