It is still a self contained (internally lubricated) supercharger. Due to the nature of its operation, the traction fluid picks up a lot of heat due to friction forces. The oil cooler is standard on any Rotrex kit to keep the lubricant's temperatures in check.

Don't worry, it is still an internally lubricated kit. No oil pan tapping needed.
