Default Homelink mirror on the cheap

So I posted this info in someone's wtb thread, suggested I make a thread for it so here goes..

For those that bought base model Z's without the homelink mirror, here's what you need to install one cheaper than buying the 270 dollar kit from nissan.

Search ebay for nissan homelink mirror. pretty much any of them will work, (ones without the compass, the compass one's may work but i'm not sure) I happened to find one from a Maxima that was like 30 bucks. There's one for 49 out there now.

Then pick up one of these:
Gentex Auto-Dimming HomeLink Mirror Wire Harness Kit : eBay Motors (item 140384080452 end time Mar-18-10 19:13:01 PDT)

Install the new mirror and route the cables down thru the headliner/trim area on the driver side. Get the wires into the fusebox area by the drivers feet area.

Get yourself a fuse add on kit like this..

Amazon.com: Pico 0956PT 10 Amp Mini Fuse Add-A-Circuit Fuse Holder: Automotive

Ideally you'd want to get a "sub-mini" sized one, as thats what the fuses are, but my local pep boys didn't have anything smaller than the "mini" size, however since sub-mini and mini are the same width it will still work.

You'll need one or two of those.. there are 2 power wires on that wire harness. you can take both of those wires into one fuse add on and put it into something like the audio fuse, more of a security thing where the mirror only works when the key is on. Otherwise you can separate the 2 power wires and put one to something that's always on, like the cig lighter maybe.

Then ground that black wire to something, there's metal on the side there next to the fuse panel that you can put a screw into.

Next hit up Courtesy Nissan for the little plastic cover for the wires.
COVER-INSIDE MIRROR - 370Z (Z34) 2009+ :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

Altogether it cost me around 70 bucks for a homelink mirror, sure beats what Nissan charges for the kit.

Hope this helps.
