Some punk key'd my 40th

Well I came outside yesterday to find my 40th key'd. State Farm informed me I'd have to pay the $500 deductible, and to take it to any shop I'd like for repairs. Any idea what this might cost? I hope they can match the 40th paint accurately

blackcherry20 07-27-2013 06:23 AM

:wtf: is wrong with people?!

Dang.

DEpointfive0 07-27-2013 06:29 AM

Fuck... I'm REALLY sorry

DEpointfive0 07-27-2013 06:31 AM

On the plus side... Those don't look to the metal...

Put your finger in your mouth, then on the scratches, if your saliva makes it seem like there isn't a scratch, all you need is a great buffing

EDIT: the one on the hood is bad

NickBaragona 07-27-2013 06:36 AM

Well at least I can start fresh with no swirl marks right?

BeemaaZ 07-27-2013 06:37 AM

Sorry for your loss.

Comprehensive Claim will not affect your insurance rates.

Change your Comprehensive deductible to $0 (just in case for future claim), the premium difference is not that much.

Thanks for the tip, in my 9 years of driving I have never had to file a claim, so this is all new to me.

No problem. Comprehensive also covers the windshield or theft, so you never know...

Yeah, you'll be ok, your insurance will take this as a loss and won't penalize you because it was out of your hands.
And great attitude on the "At least I can start fresh"

NickBaragona 07-27-2013 07:07 AM

I am also debating on upgrading the alarm, so it will go off if anything comes in contact with the car.

Keying isn't enough to really set off an alarm, and if they do adjust the sensitivity to that level, your life will be hell. Your alarm will go off every time a hummingbird with it's massive wingspan and power gets within a mile of your car (yes, that's sarcasm, I KNOW they're tiny, lol)

That very much sucks. I would be pissed beyond words. Good luck getting her right again.

Z-Girl 12 07-27-2013 07:30 AM

That makes no since...I'm sorry to see this,

Jasonle 07-27-2013 07:37 AM

Damn...hope they can match that paint!

blackcherry20 07-27-2013 07:41 AM

Learned something new. Didn't realize you could carry a deductible on comprehensive insurance.

JARblue 07-27-2013 07:42 AM

 Seems to be a rash of these recently. Sorry man :(

As has been said before: some people's kids! :shakes head:

w0rM 07-27-2013 08:31 AM

I have had the donut spare on my rear driver side, so haven't been able to go over 50mph lol. Getting my Pilot Super Sports installed in a few hours though!

40th_z 07-27-2013 10:39 AM

damn kids :shakes head:

didymus 07-27-2013 10:44 AM

Be sure to check the paintjob carefully, in the sun! Lots of posts about difficutly matching.

white_wolf 07-28-2013 05:42 PM

I can't tell from pictures. But have you considered taking it to a detailer? Sometimes, if the keying isn't deep, the scratches can be wet sanded then polished off.

I don't have a link... but a long time ago I remember reading about an Accord owner who had his car keyed (from end to end). He got help from The Junkman himself; The Junkman wet sanded the scratch, and polished it out. It wasn't completely healed, but it looked restored to 97-98% in the pictures.

ETnismo 07-28-2013 10:12 PM

i may be late to this but $500 really? i have state farm also and had my merc keyed when i had it and they said it was covered under the comprehensive since it wasnt a collision and only cost me $50 deductible

Garrett63 07-29-2013 01:41 AM

Wow! im so surprised how pissed off i am looking at that! I feel like it was my car! Complete ***-holes!

I have a high deductible which is why I only pay about $120 a month. I've never had to file a claim in 9 years, so I figured why pay a higher premium.

ajc1884 07-29-2013 08:49 AM

damn haters.

fonzo179 07-29-2013 09:05 AM

My beautiful Red 2010 Base Model got keyed too, brother.
Sorry you had to go through that mess with that lovely 40th you have. :icon14:
Hope everything turns out okay.

Brutal 370Z 07-29-2013 09:16 AM

Sorry to see that bro. Some people have no respect.

Just this weekend I was at a buddy's graduation party. A bunch of our friends parked out front of his house. Some asshol* neighbour (who was caught by eye witness) decided that since the music was too loud, he would key the sh*t out of 5 cars. Not small marks either. Right across each car and deep - right down to the metal. Thank god I was drinking and didn't drive!! One of the few scenarios where alcohol was a great decision on my part.

What made this whole thing even more confusing was that the guy was in his 50's!! Did not expect that from an adult that age. Normal people call the cops or knock on the door to say that the music is too loud.

ETnismo 07-29-2013 10:31 AM

i also have a $500 deductible but that is for collision... i would ask my agent about this

40th_z 07-29-2013 12:37 PM

under auto policy, its would be considered vandalism, which falls under comprehensive. comprehensive claims do not impact overall auto premium if you use them. its just subject to the deductible

I understand that but with state farm my deductible for vandalism is only $50 not the normal $500 deductible

edk370 07-29-2013 01:09 PM

You're obviously a UFC fan...do you train anything? if so, use those MMA skills on the loser who did that. I would drop that chump.

even better, if state farm works like others then you should only have to pay $50 and they should pick up the rest if need be

TheGreatOne 07-29-2013 02:37 PM

I read the title and was instantly enraged. Sorry to hear about that man!

Over the weekend I left my car outside too since I was working on the other car (and sometimes the scarping to get into my garage is cringe/crying worthy)

Anyways, someone keying my Z was a scenario that played in my head a few times. Lowlifes.

I'm just curious; will he be paying costs?

I'm not 100% sure what's going on yet. I think my buddy is trying to get the apparent eye witness to talk to the cops. I should hope so but his identity still has yet to be confirmed

ataboc 07-29-2013 03:47 PM

Nauseating.

definitely cost more than deductible for sure. repaint the hood alone is around 500

NickBaragona 09-19-2013 04:09 PM

I forgot to post the pics of my 40th repainted, she came out nice!
