Default Let's Talk Tires...

So I need to replace the rear tires on my 40th..

I noticed there is a ton of road noise with the stock tires and want to replace them with a solid tire that is going to last and perform.

I know the RE050A stock tire wears pretty quick as well.

Anyone have a good recommendation?

Prefer to keep the cost similar to the RE050A's or maybe a bit less if I can get a solid tire for a bit less.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the way to go. They are the best tire I have ever used (in 37 years of driving the be-jesus out of numerous Z cars).

Expensive but you get what you pay for. I have had them on my Z for about 2k miles and I love them.

Suggest whatever you get, replace all four tires for equal grip and handling measures.

Hmmm.. Can't seem to find the PSS in 285 35 19... Did you buy them in a different size in the rear? Stock size?

Not even close to comparing them in terms of Performance. In terms of treadwear and quietness we can talk. But the V12 doesn't have nearly the cornering ability of the PSS' or RE-11's. If he's looking for an economical tire with marginal performance ability at best, then sure the V12's are okay. But if he ever wants to go on a spirited drive or ever do cornering and have fun letting the rear end get controllably loose, then the PSS' are the sure thing. If they are out of his range, he could look at the RE-11 which is slightly less costly.

Another tire to note with lower cost than the PSS' but better performance than the V12's would be the Conti DW. Good on/off track performance close to that of the PSS'. The one thing Michelin does have on their side is weight savings. Surprisingly their 295/19 tire is really light.

For the PSS I had to get a 295/30/19 because at the time they did not have a 285. That was in the summer of 2011. Hopefully by now they have updated their inventory. But I love the look of the 295's in the back.

IMO anyone who wants to actually drive their car should stay far far away from continental tires! they are crap in my past experiences.

3 tire brands I will no longer/never use!

1- Falken - Nothing but problems also they have a high defected tire rate, then to top it all off they say your sh!t out luck when trying to get them to replace the defected tire! I went as far as calling head office! F U C K - Y O U FALKEN TIRE!!!!! Never again!

2 - Continental tires - tread life was at least half of the rated for my buddies mustang! & No he had no mods done to it! just a base mustang and you would think the tires had been tracked/abused! The ones I had on my altima were just basic summer tires for sedans they were ok but IMO even the Falkens I had on that car had better performance! (while they lasted....)

3 - Kumho - these are just bad tires.... might be cheap but that sums up everything about them!
