Exclamation oil consumption issue with 40th anniversary model

just wondering if anyone else with this model has had this issue. prior to my third oil change, i checked my oil and my dipstick wasn't registering. I placed immediately two quarts and with that it barely registered. I then went to nissan service department and told them about this issue. they changed my oil and told me to come back after 1000 miles to recheck. They also duct taped my oil dip stick so it would not pop out as stated by mechanic. I just went yesterday for my 1000 mile checkup, and they did an oil consumption test as stated by the the technical service bulletin. my husband actually brought the bulletin in when he initially brought the car in for this problem. they now tell me they will have to replace the short engine as per the recommendations of the bulletin. I asked what is causing this consumption problem and never really was given an answer. this is ridiculous! the car is only one year and 4 months old with 16,000 miles. I am really disappointed! I guess the duct tape should have been a sign! If anyone has any information about this issue that they would like to share, I would love to hear it.

Try the search function at the top. This is a Issue for some not all 370Z's. Also its good practice to check your oil often, maybe everytime you get gas. For your Z to loose that much oil you must have never checked it. The biggest question I would like to be answeared is why only some Z's suffer from this? Knock on wood my Z which is about 16 months old and has just hit 13K has only used a splash of oil in between changes.

Last month I took my 40th on a 6,000 km road trip from Calgary to Arizona and SoCal and back and had no oil loss. Not sure if that helps you, but it was a fun trip. Only one speeding ticket.

It's a known issue hence the service bulliten. Your car will be in the shop for a week, maybe more, but these things happen and fully covered under warranty. The duct tape was there because the dealership has to make sure oil is being burned or leaking somewhere and not because of a faulty dipstick or oil cap. There's plenty of info on this topic if you do a search. Very few are effected or have this problem, but it does happen. Good news at least is that most who have gotten this problem have been within the warranty period.

I honestly would be thankful if I were you.

Of course we'd all rather not have the issue but the fact that the company recognizes the problem and is willing to replace an entire shortblock without any sort of pushback is pretty remarkable... that's a lot of $$$ and labor for them.

Now you at least can be relatively sure you have a strong block and that you won't have to worry about undue wear on engine components due to consumption.

Some car makers would have said you are SOL! GL though hope it's fixed ASAP!

I just started the oil consumption test last week. After 1500 miles I'm bringing the car back in for another inspection. We'll see what happens.

Check out this link...
What's with the low oil?

Yea the 06 350z has the same problem. My friend just replaced his short block in his 40th. Get it replaced you have no other option. My 06 had that same problem and when I supercharged it it went caaabooommmmmm. The dealership still replaced the motor because i have my maintanence done by them and they didnt catch it. The short block is the bottom half of the motor. somehow the cylinder walls dont quite match the cylinders and it causes oil leakdown to be combusted but its so minute that its hard to tell because the exaust doesnt smoke or anything. Its all good you get a brand new motor for freeeeeeeee.
