Anyone get touch up paint for their 40th yet?

Hey guys,

So it was only when I brought my car home that I realized there was a 3" yellow line on the front bumper near the front bottom.

I call up a local Nissan Dealer (the one I bought it from is 45 mins away) to see if they have the touch up paint. When the parts guy asks me what color I say "Quartz" and he's like..."what do you mean? thats not a color" :shakes head::rofl2:

So I'm like, its for the 40th Anniversary and he's like..."huh?" so I give him my VIN and he's like, "oh, you're right, special color, I have to order it from Toronto"

So I go pick it up today, but the stick just says "grey" on it. I'll test it somewhere first but just curious if anyone has the touch up stick and what color it says?

Am I the only one that got the touch up paint with the car? Mine was sitting right inside the glove compartment when I bought it new.

Lucky bastard, maybe because I bought mine with a few clicks on it.

but ya, I'm pretty sure they gave me the wrong one even though I gave them my VIN, but again...Parts guy seems surprised something like a 40th existed :rofl2:

There's some other companies that make our colour. I have used dr.colorchip on other vehicles before and been happy. They say they have our paint code available (KAV) with their product. I will be getting it for my Z in the future but I'm lucky so far to have little to no major marks on it yet.....

Me too. Surprised this isn't typical of every new car purchase.

A little late to the thread, but if the scratch is yellow that's a rub off of something else.
Did you try getting that off first and see if the scratch is truly through your clear?

yeah i am thinking if you apply the touch up paint, it could make it look worse because it's 3" and not just a small chip.

Actually no, I haven't tried yet...I should, good point.

I think its the yellow from the lift in the Nissan garage, thats actually where I first saw the car as it came from storage and they were cleaning it up for delivery to me.

I've been trying to get touch up paint from my dealer when I bought the car back in July...I hate you, Lokey Nissan!

Superthug 03-11-2011 06:52 PM

I got some from the dealer 3-4 months back...I think it was $8 or something like that. Took about 2 weeks for it to come in

TheGreatOne 03-12-2011 06:54 PM

Well for sure i have the wrong one, not even opening it.

Its just going to be annoying going back to the dealer and explaining my Z "is special" and has "special paint", well actually, that could be annoyingly fun :)

krzykanuk 03-14-2011 11:48 AM

I got some a couple of weeks ago. It also was labeled "grey" or maybe it was "gray". The parts guy said that even though it wasn't labeled "quartz" it was the right colour. I haven't tried it yet, though.

Oh really...hmmm, so maybe its correct then, I guess I just have to open it, test it on the undercariage or something....I'll guess I'll try it first :)

98intrigue 03-15-2011 10:20 PM

I went back to Nissan today and expressed my concern how I've been waiting for my touch up paint since I bought my car in July. They said it will be here in 5 days free of charge... we shall see...

Wow that must be nice, I walked out of a store(and I always try my best to park away from people) and I caught some jackass with his door hitting mine -.-

But I got it out, it wasn't through the clear thankfully, but I would like to have a stick just in case ya know, if anyone finds a perfect match, or anywhere to find it..etc, will you pm me or leave a link please

Thanks,
Pompey

As long as it reads KAV somewhere in the color code it is the right color. There are different paint manufacturers out there that use different names and colors. The code is different because of their many batch orders, what matters is the KAV in the code. automotivetouchup.com has this along with other colors that are OEM. I have touched up many cars and even done full body paint with products from that website. it takes a while to get delivered becasue thy mix it upon ordering and that process takes about 2 to 3 days. At least i get peace of mind knowing it is fresh paint and not sitting for months on a shelf :)

98intrigue 03-15-2013 05:40 PM

I still have my bottle if anyone wants it.
