Nismo Titanium Shift Knob Open-O Design Installed

2 Attachment(s)
Freshly installed on my 40th. I was debating either going for the Aluminum Black or CF. BUT, the Titanium came out fantastic (Stock Shift Knob went boo boo). Feels different when shifting but definitely more of a sports car vibe. Makes the 40th look and feel extra special. :icon17:

Thanks guys. Shifting never felt any better when I upgraded to this bad boy. My next mod are rotors, looking at 1 Pc. Stillen D&S rotors, seems like they only have silver zinc colors, been looking at their site for black hats (haven't really seen a car with a full silver zinc rotors, always black hats or 2 Pc), so I have no clue how would these will look like.

Is that a sticker on top or is it engraved? Im just wondering

98intrigue 01-16-2011 11:29 AM

The finish looks like it matches the interior perfectly.

40thZBus 01-16-2011 12:52 PM

Where did you buy it?

It's actually a hard plastic piece that sticks on top. The adhesive that it comes with is very strong, be careful when putting otherwise it will look off.

It's perfect! I love it! I love it so much that I try to find excuses for myself just to cruise around town. :driving:

I'm a sucker, so I bought it directly from Nissan. <-FAIL :driving:

Very nice, I've seen them online but just by themselves.

I was looking at the black.

Z1 has them for $148, I think that's the cheapest around.

I think I just realized that the thick rubber at the bottom of the knob should go below the shift boot..... :roflpuke2:

This is a big fail all this time...

LOL! Right?! I tried to put the fat rubber below the shift boot and it didnt worked. It was too fat! So I went to Home Depot, bought an insane amount and various rubber washers and attempted to fix it. It worked, looks hotter (pics tomorrow since its too dark), but it feels smaller this time. I need my pinky finger to stick out whenever I shift! :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

Prepare to murder you stock shift knob. Nissan put a lot of loctite onto the stock knob so it'll feel like it isnt taking off.

You need a few things:
2 Pcs of 3" radiator hose
A pair of channel locks
A pair of vice grips

1, you will need access to the shaft of the shifter. To do that, you going to pop off the shift boot. The easiest way to do it is by putting your hands on the shift boot going inside and slowly pop the console finisher (the plastic piece surrounding the shift boot).

2 Once popped open, put one of the radiator hose onto the shaft of the shifter then use your clamp your vice grips on it. The other radiator hose goes to your stock shift knob and clamp your channel locks on it. The objective is to rotate the channel locks counter clockwise while applying decent hold on the vice grips. Apply desired amount lock on the vice grips.

3 With good amount of patience, the stock shift knob should get loose to a point that you can rotate it by hand. Make sure try not to rotate the knob and make the shaft rotate too! Rotating the shaft can damage your shifter assembly! Once able to remove the knob, remove it including the silver base of the knob, you wont be needing this piece anymore.

4 Using a wire brush, clean the threading to remove debris. By now you should have the channel locks and vice grips unused. From here on out, just screw in your custom shift knob! Dont forget to remove the radiator hose at the shaft of the shifter. Once done, just pop the consols finisher until it locks.

I found out that the rubber piece is the finisher and is normal to have it just below the knob. What I do know as wel is that I can get a better looking one than just rubber!

rli2bcz 03-04-2011 11:54 AM

Where did you get the black piece at the bottom of the knob?

karotZ 03-04-2011 03:58 PM

^ It came with the Nismo shift knob. Now I'm trying to find someone who sells a titanium finisher instead...
