2011 New Color

I haven't done a ton of research on this, but from poking around it looks/sounds like Nissan has added a new color for model year 2011 that has the same color code as our 40th Anniversary editions. If this is true, I really am not a fan. One of the reasons I got this car was because of it being even more unique than a traditional 370Z. Any one know about this?

You will see from the above that the new 2011 Gun Metallic colour is between the graphite (or "quartz" as it is called in the UK) & metallic black. It is a colour that comes from the GTR range &, as others have said, shows Nissan's fascination with all things grey!

tmjohansen 10-10-2010 04:38 PM

How would this have the same color code of KAV for the 2011 color as well as the 40th Anniversary?

BalanBro 10-10-2010 05:51 PM

I like that the 40th has the most unique shade, with a slight hint of purple/red.

Apparently the colour codes are KAV for the 40th Graphite & KAD for the new Gun Metal - but difficult to spot the difference in practice:confused:?

ThoriumHotdog 10-11-2010 02:12 PM

I'd like to see a picture of a 40th parked next to a Gun Metallic GTR. I imagine spotting the difference would be easy.

Is it confirmed that the new color is in fact KAD? If so, that kind of sucks, since I really, really like that color on the GT-R and would've loved to have it on the 370.

koeppelnissan 10-13-2010 10:21 AM

I have a gunmetal GTR parked on my lot if anyone wants to park their 40th next to it, just swing by!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a pretty noticeable difference, without having to look very hard!

LMBmikeZ 10-13-2010 07:25 PM

So let me get this straight........

Now the 40 quartz is going to be a stock colour in the 2011 models!! wow just another thing Nissan has f###ed up on!

BRN370z 10-14-2010 09:11 AM

As you can see i have the 2011 370z "KAV" color code ,, on my full option Z.
Hope you'll like it..

You didn't get this straight, the new color for this year is different than the 40th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the US at least, based on the pictures above

LMBmikeZ 10-15-2010 12:14 AM

ummmm still not making sense????

based on the colour code alone, which is what determines the colour. I would say that they are the same KAV is KAV and that's 40 quartz! so if KAD is the new colour then ya sure ok its close, but if they release the same colour (KAV) then IMO that's pretty weak!

Apparently in the Middle East they are selling the 2011 in paint code KAV:

Nissan 370Z - Middle East Official Website

They call KAV "Grey Metallic". We call it "40th Anniversary Graphite". And in Europe it's "Quartz", right? In any case, it seems the Middle East is getting the 40th Anniversary exterior look (the wheels are gray, too) for another model year.

Still wondering what a "Gun Metallic" KAD 370z will look like.

LMBmikeZ 10-31-2010 11:31 AM

Anyone go on to the ^link^ if so did you play Z pilots ??????lol it was pretty funny

370z 40th 10-31-2010 01:50 PM

**** yours is an at7 wow that is bad ***

LMBmikeZ 10-31-2010 05:24 PM

M6 for the win!

IMO auto you lose a lot of the added control/feel and that's the main reason most people get sports cars is for the shifting and driving experience of the stick shift in such a high performance car!!

flashburn 10-31-2010 05:44 PM

I just noticed when you try to build a 370Z on NissanUSA.com, that the Platinum Graphite color is gone. The "Gun Metallic" is there, but it looks exactly like Platinum Graphite, and nothing like the "Gun Metallic" from the GT-R builder.

I just assumed they haven't actually updated the graphic. I've yet to see a single picture of the 370z in Gun Metallic so maybe they're waiting until they release an official image.

:iagree:
I have been checking the website at least 5 times a day!!!
Obsessed Muched?! Yes very much so:rolleyes:

ThoriumHotdog 10-31-2010 10:40 PM

Same here. I keep doing google searches for any updated pics, blogs, etc. The close I got was some French PS3 contest with a photoshopped mock up of what it'll look like. The image was way to small and it was only the back of a roadster. Grr... Hurry up Nissan! :)

optiontrader 11-04-2010 11:53 PM

So Thorium, u decided on a Gun Metal Z? Or a PG leftover from 2010? Watching your sig change. :)

I really really like the Gun Metallic on the GTR but I'm still waiting to find an actual pic of that color on the Z. I'd jump all over the GM if I get a chance but I love red cars. If I get a good deal on a Solid Red leftover I'll go that route. [Red = Extra HP!! ;)] I still have time to wait which is driving me crazy so I guess we'll see what happens. I have a feeling I'll get more for my money if I get a leftover though. See, I just can't choose!

ThoriumHotdog 11-05-2010 12:54 AM

Edit: Most likely not Gun Metallic. Might be black cherry with some weird lighting.

Damn that's hot. It looks better than my 40th minus the rims and brakes.

ThoriumHotdog 11-05-2010 01:03 AM

I really really really like that color now. Weird combo with the wine top though.

I'm shocked I came across these pictures. I'm still looking for more pics and I'm coming up with a big fat nothing. :)

flashburn 11-05-2010 11:02 AM

Damn, I wish that color was available when I got mine. :(

LMBmikeZ 11-05-2010 12:45 PM

I hate the wine top for the roadsters its so fugly!

CERBERUSlucid 11-05-2010 03:11 PM

WOOOWWWW...good job on finding those pics bro!!!
Kinda makes me want to hold out for the 2011's instead of getting the 40th...
and I was planing on getting the 40th this weekend as welll...Hhhhmmmmmm decisions decisions...

ThoriumHotdog 11-05-2010 05:32 PM

Those are still the only images I've found. I can't wait to see the coupe. I spent at least 30 minutes trying to dig around that site to pull up larger images. No luck.

optiontrader 11-06-2010 12:50 AM

Those do look nice!

Hmmm... I always though gun metallic was lighter (like pics of the GT-R on the internet)?

LMBmikeZ 11-06-2010 11:05 AM

:iagree:

ThoriumHotdog 11-06-2010 11:09 AM

I was digging around again last night and found another car that appeared to be gunmetal. It had the wine top and everything. A closer shot of the headlight showed it was actually Black Cherry. Is it possible the sky and lighting is making the car above appear gun metal-ish? I've heard some Black Cherry owners mention the various shades it produces under different conditions so maybe thats the case. The gun metallic GTR does appear to be lighter in photos.

LMBmikeZ 11-06-2010 11:23 AM

^I think this is true for many colours, I have seen this even in my 40th depending on the lighting it will give off any one of at least 5 different shades that I have noticed

silver, black, gun metal, purpleish and brown that's right depending on the time of day and light I thought my car was brownish

ThoriumHotdog 11-06-2010 11:27 AM

Ah. Well, back to the waiting game. :) I hope Nissan releases some pics soon.

Yeah, after looking back at those photo's, I don't think that is gun metal. Really only the first picture looks like gun metal, but then the lower portion of it doesn't. Those other photo's don't look grey enough.

bigdog1250 11-07-2010 01:47 AM

It will look better than platinum graphite no doubt, but in my opinion NOT as good as the 40th anniversary. Gun metallic is definitely a lighter shade of grey, i prefer darker. The grey scale shown in the second reply is totally inaccurate. Gun metallic is barely darker than platinum graphite.

That scale was taken from the Nissan site. I looked at the same image on the Nissan site when I started looking for Zs in GM, which is why I was thrown off by the images posted above. I was expecting something much much darker than the Gun Metallic GTRs.

I'm a little surprised they even came out with the Gun Metallic for the Z considering the slight difference from PG.

Yea I agree, they should have made the 40th color the replacement for PG. It is by far the best looking shade they have. Gun Metallic is too light for my taste. Chevy has a nice dark shade of grey on the vettes I really like.

And bring back burnt orange PLEASE
