I would just look for a quality shop instead of the dealer.... then again, it depends on the dealer.

Good luck. The dealer would jump up the price big time.

Yeh those 40ths are such a special edition. Not, it's just a color scheme. Do what makes you happy with the car.

I would agree if you were going to go through the whole body kit deal, IMO I would have started without paying the premium on the 40th package! But hey to each there own, I know I can't wait to see some pics regardless of what you do and don't do to it!

It's your car...have fun with it! I'll be doing body work next, but I keep all the stock pieces as well.

I'd recommend searching a local car forum and looking for reviews on local boy shops. Call local body shops and visit them. See what kind of work they do and ask for pictures of what they've done in the past.

Dealers don't do body work in house for the most part. They contract 3rd party body shops...which means the dealer will charge a percentage on top of what the body shop charges them. It will be more expensive and depending on the body shop, the quality of their work may not be up to par.

You get what you pay for...especially when it comes to a body shop!

Keeping the stock parts stored away safely is ALWAYS a good idea. In the event (I pray it does not) an accident happens and the insurance totals it. You can then take all your aftermarket parts off and recoup some of the money.

In addition, if you ever sell it (Again, I hope you do not!). Some people might value the car higher being closer to stock over modified.

I have done this with my '92 300zx Slicktop since I bought when I was 15.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it and be sure to post up pics!

As for your original comment, a dealership can be both good and bad when it comes to painting. Almost any GOOD body shop can match the paint color and may indeed be cheaper. With that said, do your research and price different body shops in your area. The old saying, "you get what you pay for" definitly holds true with any body work you have done. So take your time and ask a lot of questions and DO NOT jump for the first offer a body shop gives you.

Its called saving my money and finding an insane deal on it! Lol. Parents helped out a little too, but I knew what I wanted for my first car since I was 13 and was working my butt off to get it.

There is an amusing story about being a 15 yr old and attending Z Events with Doctors etc I will have to tell you about later. I was one of the younger guys hanging around these cars for a while.

I also recommend to go to body shop instead of dealer doing the pain job. Good luck with body kits man. and don't forget to put the rear badge saying 40th anniversary Z though
