I have a scratch around my rear right fender the shape of the Nike check mark. You guys think it's haters scratching my car up?

LMBmikeZ 08-13-2010 01:03 PM

^^no probably not man I have one in the same area you described, it bugs me every time I wash the car (by hand always). But ya it was the second day when I got my first bad one! something kicked up from a pickup on the highway after work, I herd it hit and was like sh!t!!!!!!!! I also have a few stone chips on my bumper but I will either be trying to get nissan to deal with it (warranty if I am lucky!) or I will try my luck with Dr. Color Chip, after I do a trial run on my wifes car.

Any way ya man you will get some scratches if you drive it enough but as long as you stay on top of things there should be no problems ......

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the scratch?

What products do you guys use?

Thanks

Thanks Triple's you are one of the most helpful people in the forum and I appreciate it. I tried taking a pic but its hard to see it using my camera...the only thing you can really see in the pic is the metallic flakes in the paint and the scratch blends into it. It is not a deep scratch probably can be fixed with some over the counter products. I'm just not sure which one to use. In my old car I used the Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound a few years back and it dulled my paint a bit.

I just noticed that JakeZ34 is the one doing the detailing in the BBQ tomorrow. Maybe I'll ask him what he thinks I can use tomorrow since I'm considering going to the BBQ.

I'm just not sure how it would be road debris that would be kicked up by a truck on the freeway because of the shape. Does your scratch have a shape like the Nike checkmark too?

LMBmikeZ 08-13-2010 08:34 PM

No not like the nike swoosh at all but definitely the same size approx as you were saying............

xdeslitx 08-13-2010 09:07 PM

Here's the Nike Swoosh scratch. It's a bit hard to see because I used my cellphone.
Sorry about the size I am not home right now, I just uploaded it to my ftp using my phone then linked it. If you scroll to the right you'll see the scratch.

that is definitely from driving if it was vandalism IMO it would be 100X deeper then that.......

Ya it would be deeper if it was hooligans. The shape is just kind of weird though. Maybe it's time for clear bra.

Can you feel the scratch with your finger nail? If you can it will not come out completely, as it is too deep into the clear coat. And if it is that deep don't let anyone try to polish it all the way out either or you will have a problem with it down the road. If you can find a detailer who has a paint thickness gauge that would be best. If the scratch is too deep, with a paint gauge, they can measure as they polish and remove a safe amount of clear (no more than 0.5 mills). This will make sure you still have enough clear for years of ownership.

I have to post this up...it was just very interesting to me. I went to the Amplified BBQ today and when I got home my odometer read 370.
