Yep, I remember being forced to go to school even if I was sick and on the brink of death.
If I acted up, I got whipped with a belt and with the buckle end. Asian parents also used bamboo sticks, which hurt like a MOFO.
Ditto on the soap/water if I so much as said "crap".
And definitely on the "Yes/no sir/ma'am, Thank you, etc."
Most importantly, we all went outside to play. Tag, flag football, hide/seek, cops/robbers, going over each other's treehouses. The occasional knocking on doors and running away.
