One quick and cheap test I can think of…get a cheap infrared temp gun and see hot warm the oil cooler core is (may need to read both left and right side of the core). Compare temp gun reading against oil temp gauge.

My experience was, with 34R oil cooler uncovered, highway speed after a 10 min idle warm up yielded 160F in the same ambient temperature.
