Personally I'd recommend getting a winter set of wheels/tires. All season tires are good enough for your average car on the road. All seasons are going to be better then a summer tire in winter / better then a winter tire in summer; but worse then a summer tire for 3/4 of the year and worse then a winter tire for the other 1/4. Which is why I call them No Season tires.

I got myself a cheap set of base wheels and threw on a proper set of winter/snow tires (Michelin X-ICE). That being said, if you must the Michelin A/S 4s are the best choice from what I heard first hand, no personal experience.

No matter what tire you end up going with, heavy rain, slush, snow, or ice you need to drive SLOW and keep a good following distance. Even the narrow tires are much wider then a normal cars and just perform worse in bad weather.
