My S mode wasn't working when I got my car as well. I also noticed a few people saying there's no "click" to the button. Mine did not have any click to it either. That said, I ended up unscrewing the shift boot bezel which released the switch and I noticed I could get a clicking actuation out of the switch, indicating that my button was not getting enough travel and was always being pressed. I added a washer to the screw nearest the button which keeps the shifter bezel and the ring together. This ensured the additional button travel and actuation which has my S mode working even today.

Hope this helps.

Edit: I see OP bought a new switch so my thoughts may be null :/ hope the dealer figures it out.
