Back in France (remember Napoleon ordered and started the whole drive on the right side of the road thing), the right hand (for the right dominant handed majority) was used and needed to lash the horses from the wagon.
The driver would be sitting on the left hand side of the wagon in order for his whip, in his right hand, to be located in the centre (console) of the wagon and able to reach horses on both sides of the horse team.
Ofcourse, because you are sitting on the left hand side of the wagon, it just made sense to drive on the right side of the road to be able to see oncoming traffic and make sure your wagon wheels did not collide with the wheels of the oncoming wagons.
Fast forward a few hundred years; lashing a team of horses with your dominant right hand has been superseded by shifting through the gears of a glorious manual transmission.
Thus, if you are in the 90% majority and are right dominant handed, LHD is the correct way to drive.
