I have at least two sets of OEM mag-style lug nuts and at least two aftermarket sets. They are all intermingled by now. I hadn't previously given any thought to any differences there might be in size or strength. Upon closer examination, I believe you may be correct. In the two pics below, I believe the OEM nuts are on the left. The threaded shank section appears to be beefier. I assume that results in greater strength. I don't run HPDE so the differences are negligible for me but you are wise to be concerned.
