I've never done that, but I've done sorta the reverse - I've put it in manual mode, pulled up to a red light, and when the light turned green forgotten that it was in manual mode and that I needed to shift from first to second. Suddenly realizing that your car is revving really LOUDLY and remembering that you need to shift is an unnerving experience for sure!
