Customizing Z badges
I debadged the car except for the Nissan badges front and rear. I like the Z badges sold by the Z store on behalf of Evo R. My 2010 ZR is red and I like the red showing under the badges, but the Z badges have a silver or black carbon fiber backing which blocks the car color from being visible.
I bought the Z badges with silver carbon fiber backing disc but it didn't matter. The badges come disassembled which is good. I had A local auto body supply store make up some A54 solid red and put it in a spray paint can. I also picked up some SEMA light grey primer.
I cleaned the backing disc's with alcohol. Then I primed it with a few coats of primer and let it thoroughly dry. Next I applied the red paint and let that dry. Finally, I finished with some gloss clear coat.
The instructions for applying the 3M double sided tape double sided tape were kind of funky so I just kind of figured out a method. The tape that held the badge to the now red disk wasn't very much so I cut out some of the 3M tape that was supplied and put it around the perimeter of the badge.
Also, when you remove the original badges, the locating nubs have to be ground down (use a dremel). The result is much better in my opinion. The car color shows through so the " Z " seems to pop more.
