Can you summarize the gallery gasket thing?

I take it the gallery gasket is a point of common failure that cause loss of oil pressure and perhaps engine failure and one must pull the entire motor to replace it? Does it fail w/o warning? Are you advising I get and oil pressure gauge engage before I proceed further? Or only if I am keeping the car long term?

$13,000 for the parts and $6000 for installation for another top that will most like fail in very short order.
If corporations actually had consciences, Nissan should be ashamed.

Thanks. I have plenty saved to handle this, and future problems (in fact I could, and in hind sight probably should, have spent a fair bit more for a vehicle for this trip) with the car, but the plan, as it always has been, is to sell the car after the trip. I love having a roadster, but don't have the space to garage it and it's just not practical for me as a daily driver.

That said, it is not my intention to knowingly ignore any maintenance issues in hopes of perfidiously passing them on to some future unsuspecting buyer. The car is now in significantly better shape than when I purchased it and, except for the added miles, I'd like to keep it in excellent condition.

.
The gallery gasket doesn't require engine removal, just almost everything on the front of the engine to get to them. There is a kit that has all the replacement gaskets and fasteners. You'll want to use loc-tite and a punch to stake the fasteners in place to keep them from rotating out. Sorry to hear you had such a piss-poor introduction to the car.
