I think the socialist angle is overplayed and overstated, but I'll admit that probably depends on where you live. A lot of people in my age range and in my area have a good bit of anger towards what they see as government overreach and poor use of funds - they're into things like paid education, but it's always AS OPPOSED TO things like spending on more military. If the parties in power were truly in favor of reducing government spending as opposed to increasing it (but increasing it for military on the Right and Programs on the Left) most of my contemporaries are in favor of that. Quite a few people are also sick of corporate welfare (again something that both left and right agree on).
