If it were my car I would not use any brake cleaner unless I immediately followup with water. Thar sucker dries up everything especially rubber hoses.

What I normally do is use 50% water and 50% degreaser. Or Simple Green. I would just spray and spray and spray. Then I spray and spray again with 100% water to rinse

steam cleaning went out back in the 80's when water damaged much of engine electronics. I am sure they are still around but I wouldn't take my chances.
