The other possibility is that there is too much freon in the system. If a system is over-charged, it may work fine one day because the outside air temp isn't very high, but will not work the next day because the air temp is elevated, causing the freon to expand and trip the high pressure switch. The 'mechanic' should have hung a set of gauges to measure high side & low side pressure. If he didn't, you need to find another place. Good luck.
