Since you describe it as "squirrely" and not "OMG I Just Shat My Pants", that indicates to me that your caliper (or any other part of the system) is not toast. It may need to be rebuilt, but it's not toast.

First thing I'd do is flush the system. Check for kinks and other bad spots in the lines. If that didn't fix the problem, I'd take it to a pro.
