Very common problem with all Toyota trucks. There have been recalls for frame rust issues on a bunch of Tacoma generations and I think the 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners too. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’ve done a frame recall yet on the 5th gen yet (2010-present).

I would prep and then paint the frame with por 15 and try and get as much as possible coverage inside the frame rails, they tend to rust from the inside out a lot of the time. I think kbs coatings also has a good frame rust repair/preventative coating as well but I haven’t looked into yet so I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not.
