Default SRS Airbag Front Crash Sensor Fault

Hello fellow 370Z Enthusiasts!

I own a 2016 Z that had been in an accident that damaged the wire that leads to the front crash sensor in the engine bay. The wire damage was right behind the passenger headlight.

The blinking SRS Dash Light, when put into diagnostics mode, displays two 3 second flashes followed by one quick flash. (The indication of a Front Crash Sensor Fault)

Judging from this I attempted to cut out the damaged SRS wire, (after having cut the outer plastic wiring tube and pulled it away from the other wires), and I took a new connector and sensor and butt-spliced them to the remaining wire. (This is a shielded SRS cable and has a ground wire)

But I'm still getting the same Dash Light Sequence showing the front crash sensor fault.

Are there any knowledgeable persons who might be willing to help with advice on how to remedy this problem? Can the wire be successfully spliced? Could the fault actually be somewhere else?
