It will slow the motor down. It creates windage around the crank. The crank is moving oil out of it's way. Now if you really put too much oil in. You can hydrolock the motor. Seen a kid at a garage put oil into the motor with one of those overhead oil lines. He squeezed the trigger and didn't stop until the oil was coming out of the dip stick tube. Then he tried to start the car and back it out. Thank god it didn't start. We figure he put over 20 quarts of oil in.
