Actually no..as long as the broken bone is aligned properly or what we call reduced in orthopedic terms. Your good. Ive seen forearm and humeral fx that healed well without surgery.
The orthopedic MD would decide if a patient would further benefit with surgery usually he/she looks at the age, other co morbid complications such as uncontrollable DM, Heart issues... etc.
I have seen pt had to wait 3 weeks before surgery...as surgeons cannot operate if the limb is severely swollen.
But yes they do heal well without surgery.
But most Weight bearing bones like the one on your legs like the femur typically they do surgery on that so you can potentially walk better.
But if a patient is bed bound to begin with, they just reduce(Realign) then put a cast or long leg soft brace.
Penile fracture is the worst kind!!!
