To Rusty's point, maybe it's getting to where some of them would consider revolution - they can see the freedoms in democratic countries, and the younger people do seem to want them. But you'd need a combination of a charismatic leader or leaders, a failure to react swiftly on the part of the Chinese government, and a willingness to alter 70 years of habit on the part of the older generations.

Don't get me wrong, they may try to make the change, but even in our country we're not eager to make simple changes that might help a large number of people (for example, limiting the influence of lobbyists).
