Have a friend who is a State Trooper and the advice he gave me is 8 MPH or more over the posted speed limit is what gets their attention. Situations such as weather, traffic volume and driver reactions play a role in their decision making.

If it is 2AM with little or no traffic you may perk their interest at 7 MPH over, but they do prefer the bigger prize for reasons of safety. Switching lanes quickly and tapping your brakes at night (dipping headlights) increase your chances to get pulled over.

If you get selected as a guest speeder, be respectful and man up. Your chances of getting a break are much better if you tell the truth instead of making up a bunch of tall tales. You may not get out of a ticket but your actions and how you present yourself in that short 3 minute window may get reckless dropped down to regular speeding. Most State Police officers are former military and they have heard and seen it all.

Enjoy the car, nothing limits you on how fast you can get to the legal speed limit as long as you're not spinning the tires! And remember, no matter how fast you think your car may be, it's hard to out run the radio!
