Thanks so much for saying this I went back and turned it not even a quarter of a turn and it actually popped into place I just squeezed the clip in the other side

I tried using the same method on the driver side I ended up slightly flattening the clip so it went in easier everything is still snug and I have to pull it out with a needle nose again but it was so much easier to get in when I flattened it with the hammer just a bit
