There is no actual limit though. Wear and fatigue is cumulative. There is no defined line where the engine has become terribly unreliable. We just know that it is theoretically less and less dependable the further you go. So if there is no clear line to the limits of the engine, how do we define a clear line where someone is being a poor roll model or misleading others when advertising their achievements?

This sort of record stuff is always going to go this way, and its like this for all platforms. Pushing these records ultimately helps a community dial-in their expectations. If its the world record, common sense tells you that this car is currently pushing the known limits, and you should assume that if you do the same you are taking on some risks.

I do strongly feel that there should be more consumer awareness in this industry to appropriately align the expectations of the owners. People only see the results with no real understanding of what might have occurred behind the scenes to get there. But that responsibility does not automatically fall into the hands of people setting records.

I have personally spent a lot of energy over the years talking customers out of builds that I know will ultimately make them miserable. Most of them actually just dont want to hear it and seem to get frustrated with me for it.
