Update:

The tortie is home and looks better than she did 3 days ago. We have to give her subcutaneous hydration twice a day for the next week. She goes back next Saturday for a check up. We put up a baby gate so she wouldn't try to climb the stairs, but left the door to the basement open. We found kitty litter on the top of the washer....

, (the top of the washer is even with the second step down to the basement, so it's not far) so it looks like she's moving around a little. Fingers crossed....
