ZSpeed Stage 2 clutch/flywheel review
Review ZSpeed Stage 2 EZ-Street, Quiet Clutch, 20 lbs Flywheel CMAK – Master Cylinder
In short, it is the best mod ever, makes the car feel 200 lbs lighter. In low gears when you let off the gas there is engine braking now due to the lower rotational mass in the drive train. Now, when I let off the gas in lower gears I feel engine braking, it never did that before. Much more responsive than stock, (I have a Sprint Booster set to green) Responsive equals fun to drive and it feels so much more playful now, I just want to push it in the low gears all the time. It engages much earlier, a bit more aggressive grab, minor learning curve the for first few starts from stopped. Weighted shift knob helps the transmission seem less balky, and more eager to go into gear.
Chatter is minimal, in my garage with stereo off and windows down I can hear it, but not on the street. Not from the drivers seat anyway. “Quiet Clutch” seems to work, this setup is less than half the chatter I had with my RX-8 lightened flywheel set up.
This is a great option if you need to replace your clutch. My stock clutch was slipping at 50,000 miles whenever it was hot and I was showing off. My mechanic said “the flywheel was glazed and had hot spots but still had 55% wear left.” My motor may have been a bit strong for stock, it was the strongest of the six 370Z’s I test drove, and that was before I added intake, test pipes and catback from Fast Intentions. My car was abused before I bought it, it was a stolen car recovery and the clutch never felt correct, until now.
ZSpeed was great, I had the system at my doorstep in three days. I also ordered the recommended Redline transmission and Motul brake fluids, enough to flush the brake master as well. I actually ordered first from Z1 who had a cheaper price, they took my money but refused to ship unless I filled out forms with signatures and sent photo copies of my credit card and driver license. I refused to do so, they said I could reorder everything online again and check out with PayPal. After several emails and phone calls it was obvious I wanted their product more than they wanted to ship it. It was a week to get my money back. I am very happy I went with the Zspeed instead, as they say, you get what you pay for. (Except they refused to ship it, so I didn’t get it. lol)
PS I would like to mention my other favorite mod, Tire change and rear 15mm rear wheel spacer. I have the Touring Sport with the 19 inch Z wheels. Stock size is 245 and 275 but putting 225's on the front and 285's on the rear it really reduces the effort of turning and reduces the turning radius by quite a lot. It makes the steering feel lighter and no plough at full turn. For example, with the stock setup when I went to a local pizza shop and did a U turn to go back home I always had to do a three point turn and you could feel the front tires plough, Now I can just cut the wheel and do a U turn. It is also a better look with the exaggerated stagger. I am sure this would not help track lap times or Nissan would have done it this way from the start. It does improve drive ability for the street.
