For the sake of your engine, please put the OEM intakes back on until you learn a little more about engine mods. Although your buddy's intakes look great, they are not the proper equipment (see comments above).

As far as a tune goes, the rule of thumb is:
Intake mods only - no tune required (the ECM will adapt)
Exhaust mods only - no tune required (the ECM will adapt)
Intake + exhaust mods - tune required

IMNSHO, metal intakes are a bad idea. You pick up a lot of heat from the engine bay unless you do a lot of insulating. YMMV
