It's a headache if you like to keep your car looking really tidy, IMO. Your car can look dirty a few days after you wash it.
But I'm the kind of person who comes back to my car in the parking lot and checks to make sure I don't have any door dings; I don't park under trees and I avoid parking near sprinklers. (In LA, watermarks from the crappy sprinkler water are really hard to get rid of.)
There's no argument that black looks mean as hell. I've also owned a pearl car, and it was much easier to keep clean. And things like scratches and little dings didn't show up as easily. Red has been just as easy. Black is only hard if you are in any way freaky about dirt/dust, waterspots, small scratches, etc. For me, it's not worth it anymore...
