Get a paper towel core, piece of hose, etc., put one end to your ear, and point the other end at different places in the engine compartment. This should help you narrow down where the sound is coming from. Be VERY careful around moving parts - no ties or loose-fitting clothing, maintain some distance between you and moving parts, etc.
