Surprised at the intense hate for this thing already, people act like Steve Jobs raped their mother when talking about this thing.
All brand loyalty aside, I see a lot of potential in this platform in changing how we interact with information on a daily basis. And that goes for any company making such a device. I don't think this is meant to replace your phone or your ipod or your laptop, so don't attack it for not being any of those things.
I can think of several times in just the past day or two that I would have used a device such as this. I don't see people jumping all over Amazon for the Kindle not having email/color screen/photo viewer etc, because it's not meant to do any of those things. This iPad offers waaaay more for the price than any e-reader out there, and better yet, provides a beautiful platform from which to build a foundation.
I can see myself getting one of these and moving to a more basic phone, and perhaps just getting a desktop computer down the line. I use my laptop 80% for surfing the web, and using media; this offers a more flexible platform for me to use for that purpose.
While this is far from perfect, I think it will only get better. Look at the very first iPod and compare it to the latest iPod and you will see many magnitudes of improvement, I see this heading in the same direction.
