My dilemma is this -- why go hang out with people I did not like that much in school?

My 40th is this year as well. I was one of those popular kids you are talking about except for I was friends with everybody. I was a band rat, played sports and hung out with nerds, lol. There were two high schools in my town and we combined them my senior year so we have joint reunions. My observations are that most of us are very humble as we have seen a lot and been through a lot of stuff. Also, many of those popular or not so are no longer with us and it makes see those we were forced to spend are youth with worth it. I will be attending mine and laugh and cry a little for life is short and our relationships are the most valuable thing we have while we are here on this rock! So urge you to go and have an open mind about it. Get out of you comfort zone you ain't that pimply faced teen and most will not have experienced the success and joy you have.
Just my two cents brother!
