For anyone who might stumble upon this thread in the future, I would mention that it's important to follow the brake pad manufacturer's recommendation when it comes to bedding in your brake pads. There are several large brake pad companies including ATE and Akebono that specifically recommend AGAINST hard stops for the bedding-in procedure: "400 to 500 miles of moderate driving is recommended. Consumer should avoid heavy braking during this period."
