Not bad
I tried photomatix and really liked it but wasn't willing to pay $100 for it. I used qtpfsgui for my shots. It's free and produces very similar results. Takes a bit more effort but isn't too hard to work with. I just downloaded Gimp to see if I can use it as a substitute for Photoshop. I like PS but again, don't want to pay $100.

Actually I took these pics with a Panasonic FZ35. You can find them for just over $300
Oh and nice shots of the car but I agree that they probably came from a single original. I've seen pretty good HDR effects from using a single RAW file but it seems that taking multiple shots is preferred.
