Im 4.5 months into my purchase...
It took me a bit not to curb this car under performance maneuvers. I damaged the right front slightly curbing it under performance oriented driving. But i can say the car has felt smaller than it is in transitions. Its the width part that takes a lot of getting used to in sudden 90 degree turns. Overall visibity i can say you get used to it like a Z.
Now that im confident in my Camaro 2SS i think its shockingly amazing. It took a lil time for me to be as confident as in my Z but now that i am its ridiculously fun. I decided to keep it stock till i mastered driving it. No need in doing things without knowing how the car drives. Im 6000 miles in now and feel very comfortable with it.
Its acceleration is mindblowing. As much as the ZL1 seems mindblowingly fun. I feel great that i can push my car to its limits and still average 15.6mpg. Its crazy to get upto 150 so quickly and still have a lot of power left.
Every hard corner ive ever hit in my Z i hit it with equal skill in my camaro with more shove coming out of a corner abd a stronger dart forward.
COMPETITIVE Mode
Theres no traction on take offs n a smidge in corners. Just enough for split second saves. People dont crash in Chevys like in mustangs because theres a stroke of genius behind stabilitrack. In track and sport mode you still get lots of fun in the car. Its rare when you feel the traction intruding. Touring is much more TC but you will stiil break the tires screaching if you stomp on it.
Snow ice. If youre a stickler for safety and fuel efficiency. You can even use this mode in regular weather. The versatility while remaining sport oriented is pretty amazing.
I dont use launch control cuz its so much more fun smoking the tires. Its hard to believe this 3700lb car feels so nimble. It has never truly felt front heavy to me compared to the Z. Its a marvel in engineering. I cant speak good enough on GM's performance effort.
When i think of my Z, i still think about its perfectly small size and feeling more connected to the machine itself. Seating position and the 2 seat layout aid that greatly. But when it comes to feeling connected to the road. I would say both are equally capable.
Despite whatever people say about the cramped camaro interior. Its usability is very high for my needs. But you wont be bringing home tv's in it. From groceries to vday flowers for fam n gf etc... It does the job. Plenty of luggage and golf space.
The ricers...
Theyre learning hard lessons when they wanna show out. Lol.
I cant speak good enough about my camaro. My interior plastics arent as good as the Z buuut leagues better than ford or challenger. I checked them out at the auto show. The challenger was horrendous inside. Mustang was a lil behind but with a better layout than the two cuz the stang feels easier to look out of etc... The competitors both are equally beautiful on the outside in my opiniin, but Challenger paint rocks. Seriously. What they lose on interior, they gain in paint.
What needs improvement performance wise?
At launch, the camaro front bounces up pretty hard. We need to hunker this bitch down with suspension tweaking.
The stock body rigidity is unreal for a car in its price range with no real body bracing. This car is more rigid than a Nismo. So Nissan needs a new chassis or needs a new chassis. The FM is outdated. The alpha chassis feels like it belongs in the $100k world.
All this said. All these cars have individual personalities and all the ones mentioned are injecting raw performance with a relatively low entry price.
And while Nissan has fallen behind. I think in its purity. The Z is not outdated. Nissan just fails to provide what the others keep up with.
When i use the tech in my car, i dont understand why those type of upgrades arent happening as good as Nissan could.
But yet im happy for simple things like an old fashioned e brake. Which you cant get in a camaro.
Ive delayed my Nismo purchase. As the supra comes to fruition im thinking. Im entertained enough to wait and see if Toyota can steal my heart from Nissan? Or will i put a Nismo next to the Camaro. Her name is Darlene, by the way. And my Z was Zenobia.
