Well, could have posted in the "New 370Z Owner" subforum but I figured this would have more usefulness here.
So, here we go:
And, BTW, this proves what I had said earlier in a thread about how much to pay for an '09--you should be doing MUCH better than just invoice since the 2010s can be had for invoice.
Used the American Express link (posted somewhere here) and printed off what I could get from a place 39.2 miles away. Basically, for my zip code, it was invoice not counting the usual $720 destination cost, so about $650 below invoice.
Test drove the car. No "ECU" squeal / high-pitch noise. Good firm ride. On the interstate--confirmed the road noise from the rear (no biggie). Handles nicely. Shifting was, well, tough, I guess. But a short throw. Clutch heavier than my RSX. Less visibility (I can get used to it...drove a CRX for a long time).
Came back, parked it and began discussing.
NOW, first of all, if I had my choice, I would have gotten PG color. But, it is HARD around Atlanta to find a car like I wanted: Touring, MT, Navi, and Sport (plates, mats, guards, etc.). Seems someone has decided that if a person wants top of the line, they also want AT. So, the only car falling into that/my category was RED.
So, I told the salesman I didn't like BS games and that I had been around the block a few times in my life (in nicer terms, or course). That I just wanted to get the same kind of deal I could get from this internet connection. Gave him the printout. He disappeard. Going to look for a PG color in Georgia (or possibly TN, AL or FL). About 30 minutes. I was getting restless. So, he comes back and lays out the work page. It has the same price as my printout (invoice - destination), my trade in allowance, and the "out the door" price. The OTD price included taxes, title, etc (well, DUH !). All the figures worked EXCEPT for the cursed BS "tack-on" of $399 for "customer services". This, BTW, was hard-coded in the forms in the paperwork, not added on after the fact. It wasn't a bartering point (even though it's BS). Could be worse...the dealer in Morrow, GA, added in nearly $3,000 worth of costs on a Nismo '09 so that the MSRP final on it was $44,000 !!!. (something about paint protection and other stuff).
So, to make the long story short, discussions of paying $200 to get a PG car with my options on it from 300-400 miles away on Monday and arriving on Tuesday. I had already removed my trade-in from the deal because $13,000 wasn't enough for my '06 RSX type S. So, I wasn't looking forward to someone driving "my" car 300-400 miles and paying an extra $200 for it to be delivered. So, the manager mentioned takeing the RED one I had test driven if he allowed me $600 more for my trade in. I'm not crazy about red but...I countered with make it $1,000 extra and we had a deal. And we shook hands. $14,000 for my RSX S and OTD for $27,500. Before trade in, the invoice price was $37,500 (invoice + destination charge). Taxes and Title brought that to $39,250. Add in that BS (customer services) charge of $450 and the total is $39,700. Subtract $14,000 and you have $25,700.
For those not knowing, by trading in my RSX at less than the price I could sell it at (according to Edmonds), about $16,000, I received a reduction in sales tax equal to $980 that I didn't have to pay. So, it's basically like selling my car for $15,000 and giving it to them after the fact.
Anyway, my points:
I joined here in November, I believe and now I'm an owner after a few months. I believe this forum helped me get the invoice price I got.
I have a sucky red 370Z now (but I'll try to get used to it).
Don't pay more than invoice for a new 2010 370Z.
Oh, and beer is on me tonight.
