That brace was used when guys were trying to run COG setups. Any bit of flex would throw the cog belt off enough to chew it up since the COGS do not have sidewalls like a ribbed pulley. I also went through 3 belts trying that. The brace you see (which ended up on my car) is not needed.

Is something needed if running the 9 psi pulley and maxing out the supercharger? Yes, a little more tension on the belt and pulley. This is accomplished by the above picture. Only my kit will be running a 3.12 serp side, 2.95 SC and 3.33 Jachshaft so there should be even less slip or zero.
