Nissan had an issue with the internal slaves in the 350Z. They re-engineered the part as an external slave and put it on the last couple of model years. The 370Z aftermarket slaves are mostly based off that design IINM.

The only reason I prefer the external slave is I like the idea of not having to drop the transmission if something happens down the road. Of course, even with the external slave, something could happen. But with the internal slave, you know you're going to be dropping the transmission even if it's just to inspect the part.
