2009 Base 6MT, 21k miles & Flash Flood
So about 9 days ago I went was involved in a freak acciddent that caused a flash flood in STL, MO. What happened was my car was flooded, with me in it and 10 hours later it was on dry land. The windows are down(but covered by a tarp), hatch is open and will not start. I am pretty sure the motor is hydrolocked. It has 21k on it and is the base model, has brand new tires with rims with no scratches. It was a super sexy car, and I only had it for 5 weeks before all this happened. The insurance company is trying to give me the shaft so i am retaining it and selling it off. I have already had like 4 local people contact me in regards to this. It has the stillen G3's on it however I am taking those off and including the stock system with it.

Was the engine running while the car was in deep water? If so, and the water killed the engine, then yes, likely major engine damage. If you even turned the engine over with the start button without first checking to make sure the intake isn't full of water, you could've hurt the engine at that point as well.
If the engine is ok, in theory the car could be drivable with some work, but that water will have seeped in everywhere. At the very least you'd be replacing all the carpets/fabric, fixing some electrical issues, dealing with early internal rusting from water getting stuck in places where you can't get it out again easily, etc. Normally an insurance place will total a flooded car because it's damn near impossible to get them back to their previous level of quality, especially a brand new car. Fight them on it. |

I am located at Olivette, but the car is not at my house. They are still working out a number for me. Also the car was running, it was a weird freak incident to where i was not aware of the flooding around me. It was down at market & vandeventer, well at least thats were it floated to.
I just spoke to the insurance company and really its a waste of my time unless I get 10k for the car.

You only had the car for 5 weeks, I wouldn't take anything less than what you paid for the car (total replacement). They get to keep the chassis to repair/sell if they want, but full coverage + extensive water damage should = you get off scott free financially. If not, what was the point of paying for insurance?

trust me, I totally hear you and its becoming an all out war. Basically they want 8888 for the car back, plus a towing and storage, etc. So if I sell the car for 10k, ill break even on the transaction.

So thats where all the rain has been, Its been hott and sunny every day in florida the last few months, other than a thunderstorm once in a great while. Good luck, I had Progressive with one car and they said I had no full coverage...3 weeks later they hand me a check apologizing and paying for all my rental car and storage etc.
